New Mama Style

Monday, August 25, 2014

When you're a new mommy, dressing yourself - heck, showering - is a feat in and of itself, never mind dressing stylishly. Plus, how do you redefine your style after months of maternity clothes? Even those with killer maternity style probably still weren't dressing like their pre-pregnancy selves. So how do you get back there? How do you dress to feel like "you" again and accommodate your new roles as mommy? How are mommies meant to dress anyway?

Honestly, I have no idea. The first few weeks after baby girl was born I just wore yoga pants and maternity tops. Slowly I started to fit back into my old clothes and started rediscovering past faves. I started to notice the moms who's style I thought was "cute" and took copious mental notes, I'm still doing this actually. I started to gravitate toward basics and classics, comfort and easy boob access (you know, because nursing) became keys for me. I'm still figuring out what my "mom style" is - what fits my life now and still makes me feel attractive - somedays I do better than others. I wear a lot of tee shirts. The outfit above is quickly becoming my uniform. Skinny jeans (leggings around the house - let's be real), a soft v neck (I love the shirts from Marine Layer), cute flats (Vans or strappy sandals), sunnies, a cute bag, lipgloss to make you look awake even if you don't feel it, and of course a sling for ze bebe (the Sakura Bloom - pictured - or the Stokke carrier - not pictured) and a little outfit from Baby GAP.

Unfortunately, a lady cannot live in v necks alone. So here's an outfit fro when I need to step it up a notch (our anniversary day trip to wine country for instance). A bright and floaty sundress, a chambray shirt, cute flats, a dressy bag (Marc by Marc Jacobs from a few seasons ago), sunnies, lip gloss, and of course a sling for ze bebe and a little outfit from peek kids.

I'll probably never be back 100% to my pre-pregnancy self style wise, but that's okay - I'm figuring out this new me.

2014 Met Gala

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

So unless you've been living under a rock, you know that the 2014 Met Gala happened on Monday. Ack! This is my favorite "fashion thingy" of the year. Yes, even more so than the Oscars. I love that most of the celebrities and guests break out the couture and that more than just beautiful gowns, people come dressed in head to toe works of art. It's that extra dose of creativity that gets me.

There were way too many beautiful looks for me to narrow it down to a top three, so here are my favorite round ups:
1 / 2 / 3. Enjoy!

Tuesday's Tips & Tricks

Tuesday, May 6, 2014

Now that we are solidly in the midst of spring, with summer rapidly approaching, I love the idea of piling on the slivery jewelry. Throw in a few semi-precious stones ... perfection.

If the shoe fits

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Okay. I get the whole "beauty is pain thing" but this is a bit much. I get waxes, I'm all for extractions, I've gotten peels, and tried masks that felt like they were burning off a layer of skin, hell, I'm not even opposed to botox (someday, 10+ years from now) - but surgery to alter the shape of your foot in order to fit into designer heels? I don't know ...

According to this article, so called "Cinderella Procedures" are on the rise (especially in LA). Does this seem excessive to you, or is it a cosmetic procedure in the same vein as getting a breast augmentation? I don't know how I feel about this, unless there is a medial reason for foot surgery, it seems a bit frivolous (not to mention painful and unnecessary). But then again, is getting a wax frivolous and unnecessary? What do you think dolls?

I'm a taurus, loud and proud - so I'm loving this unexpected take on the zodiac charm necklace. This Monserat de Lucca necklace is astrological with an edge, and in no way screams "hey baby, what's your sign?".

Oh. Wow. How beautiful are these veils by Stone Fox Bride? I love a floral wreath on a bride, combine that with a veil - magic. Beautiful, stylish magic.

Tuesday's Tips & Tricks

As much as I love a big piece of statement jewelry, sometimes I really prefer the subtle sexiness of a dainty gem. Something to add just a hint of sparkle against just a hint of bare skin.

Get this, H&M is about to begin selling ... wedding dresses! Their first will debut for just $99. Yeah. $99. Not a bad way to shave a few grand off your wedding budget.

So, what do you think? Would you buy an H&M wedding dress?

chunky monkey

I'm filing this away for some post-pregnancy style inspiration. How sweet are these printed pants? Plus, I'm never one to say no to a chunky heel, especially one like this that still almost feels demure.

Longchamp spring '14

Monday, February 10, 2014

Longchamp's new spring '14 campaign video starring Alexa Chung is such a fun romp.

Set on the shores of Saint Tropez, the video evokes French New Wave film beach scenes. Chung is styled in breezy mod short coats, her signature ballet flats, with sun-kissed makeup, and effortless hair. Perhaps the perfect inspiration for spring. Longchamp's lovely pastel-hued totes and metallic clutches (I'm a big fan of their non-fussy yet sophisticated accessories - they're fantastic "pull it together" pieces) are prominently on display, but the video feels much more like a mini-film than it does an ad.
