In her book Bossy Pants Tina Fey says: “Every girl is expected to have caucasian blue eyes, full Spanish lips, a classic button nose, hairless Asian skin with a California tan, a Jamaican dance hall ass, long Swedish legs, small Japanese feet, the abs of a lesbian gym owner, the hips of a nine-year-old boy, the arms of Michelle Obama and doll tits. This is why everyone is struggling.” Ha!
It's true, right!? Who created these photoshoped standards? I rationally know that most, if not all, of the images of "beauties" out there are altered in one way or another - but it's hard not to get sucked in from time to time. And oh man, gis etting sucked into that comparison rabbit hole not ideal or healthy. That's why funny, smart, and strong female voices, like Tina's, are so importnat - someone's gotta knock us back down to reality.
I post a lot about beauty here, but my main intent is to share ways to enhance what we all were naturally blessed with, and to hopefully have some fun in the process too. It's important to remember that pretty images are just that, images, fabrications, even though that can be difficult when we're inundated with these kinds of pictures on a daily basis. So I wonder, how do you stay grounded in a world of photoshop?

It's tough to stay grounded. I try to think that most women don't look the way some look in a magazine. I started to notice that even my standards of beauty are slowly shifting towards the "norm". Sad.
