Alone.

I'm going to admit something here: I've never lived alone. I moved from my mom's to a dorm, to living with girlfriends, to living with the hubs. While I definitely have alone time, and am fairly comfortable being and doing most things alone, I not that comfortable sleeping alone. Terrified is actually a better word. I'm terrified of sleeping in a apartment/house alone. Tell me I'm not the only one.

So this past weekend when the hubs took his trip up north, I was super thankful to have plans (and a sleep over) with my girlfriends on the books for Saturday, but I was a little more, er, "nervous" about Friday night. Yes, I'm a baby. I know this. I purposefully didn't schedule anything for that evening, because, well, it was time for me to put on my big girl panties and face my fears. And the craziest thing happened ...

I was fine! Duh. I cleaned like the dickens, rented a movie, and may have imbibed the better part of a bottle of Chardonay (hey, I was left to my own devices - or vices, as the case may be). Yes, I was "nervous" when bedtime actually rolled around, but I climbed into bed with my cats (don't judge) and slept like a baby. A baby who's a really light sleeper. But hey, I did it. I survived, and for me this was a little victory.  Next time, maybe, I won't be so "nervous."

I guess my point is that every once in a while, even in a marriage, you gotta take a beat and remember to enjoy your own company.

  1. I totally used to feel that way. Can completely relate. I've lived alone now for 3 years, though, and I have to say; it's been the best living experience yet!

  2. Yes, I will tell you that you are not the only one who is terrified of sleeping alone! Now that you confessed it here I can also say, because normally I feel a bit... ashamed of that! I did live alone and believe me, every night is a nightmare. I had to find a way to actually sleep at a certain time, or else I would go on struggling up to daylight, when I then could sleep. Oh my, it makes me feel so silly! We all definitely need some time alone, glad you had some!

  3. Same here. Never lived alone. Always worry at night when I do have to stay by myself.

  4. I am never really alone either, or at least not for longer than a day. My boyfriend and I are always together, and we've been together for over 10 years now. Last month he had a conference abroad, and boy did I feel lonely without him!
