Livy's 1st Birthday Party

Tuesday, May 26, 2015

Hi dolls, how are ya? Coming off of a fab-o weekend I hope!

Like I mentioned, our darling girl turned one whole year old a few weeks ago. To celebrate, we threw a small party at Palisades Park in Santa Monica. Here are a few photos if you'd like to see:

It was a really special afternoon. I was so pleased with the way it all turned out. Big thanks to our friends and family who took the day to celebrate this happy milestone for our little family with us. It truly takes a village and we are so grateful for ours.

Livy at Four Months

Wednesday, September 10, 2014

My baby is four months old. Four! These have been the fastest (and sweetest) four months of my life. It's true what they say, the days are long but the years, they are short. I remind myself of that on especially trying days - someday you will miss this. She'll never be this little again, and you will miss this. It's an odd thing to feel nostalgic for a moment as you live it. I guess that's something every mommy ever has struggled with.

I'm just trying to drink her in. Her warm milky baby breath on my neck, the delicious weight of her body as I carry her to bed, the way she melts into my shoulder when I pick her up, her bright blue eyes and they way they follow me where ever I go, how fuzzy her little coconut head is ... I am truly smitten by this little lady. I don't even mind her poop that much (but we haven't started solids yet, so check back with me on that one in a few months).

At four months, Livy is so alert and very social. She loves going on walks, and prefers to sit front facing in our Stokke carrier now. She is an observer, quietly taking it all in until we're alone together, then she coos and squeals, telling me about everything she saw and what she thought about it. She can reach for and grasp a toy or lovie, and pull herself up to a seated position with help. She's rolled over once, but it would seem that for now, once was enough. She smiles and giggles, and wakes up in such a good mood - all big baby blues and toothless grins. She has such a sweet disposition, but there is determination there too. She knows what she likes, namely nursing, singing, cuddling, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, her baby gym, her lovie, her daddy, and me - most of all.

Babies don't stay babies for long enough, and I can't believe mine is already four months along. My sweet girl, I love you more than words can say.

New Mama Style

Monday, August 25, 2014

When you're a new mommy, dressing yourself - heck, showering - is a feat in and of itself, never mind dressing stylishly. Plus, how do you redefine your style after months of maternity clothes? Even those with killer maternity style probably still weren't dressing like their pre-pregnancy selves. So how do you get back there? How do you dress to feel like "you" again and accommodate your new roles as mommy? How are mommies meant to dress anyway?

Honestly, I have no idea. The first few weeks after baby girl was born I just wore yoga pants and maternity tops. Slowly I started to fit back into my old clothes and started rediscovering past faves. I started to notice the moms who's style I thought was "cute" and took copious mental notes, I'm still doing this actually. I started to gravitate toward basics and classics, comfort and easy boob access (you know, because nursing) became keys for me. I'm still figuring out what my "mom style" is - what fits my life now and still makes me feel attractive - somedays I do better than others. I wear a lot of tee shirts. The outfit above is quickly becoming my uniform. Skinny jeans (leggings around the house - let's be real), a soft v neck (I love the shirts from Marine Layer), cute flats (Vans or strappy sandals), sunnies, a cute bag, lipgloss to make you look awake even if you don't feel it, and of course a sling for ze bebe (the Sakura Bloom - pictured - or the Stokke carrier - not pictured) and a little outfit from Baby GAP.

Unfortunately, a lady cannot live in v necks alone. So here's an outfit fro when I need to step it up a notch (our anniversary day trip to wine country for instance). A bright and floaty sundress, a chambray shirt, cute flats, a dressy bag (Marc by Marc Jacobs from a few seasons ago), sunnies, lip gloss, and of course a sling for ze bebe and a little outfit from peek kids.

I'll probably never be back 100% to my pre-pregnancy self style wise, but that's okay - I'm figuring out this new me.

Bouquet

Thursday, May 1, 2014

This arrangement looks pretty normal, just a simple bunch of white hydrangeas -- but it's so much more than that.

The hubs is not one for romantic gestures. He's not a surprise you on a tuesday with a bunch of roses because they reminded him of you kind of guy. In a good year, I'll get flowers from him maybe once on Valentine's Day. The hubs isn't a flowery words and love letters kind of guy either. He's much more of an actions speak louder kind of guy. But not big romantic gestures and actions. He's the kind of guy who shows love by getting up everyday and working his butt of for his family, through loyalty, through jokes and cuddles, through foot rubs, and by doing the dishes when I'm too tired to. You know those million little everyday-things that remind you that love isn't the fireworks of infatuation, it's the everyday business of working hard to build a life with someone. It's showing up and being there.

So when the hubs came home early from work on my birthday to surprise me with a bunch of white hydrangeas because he knows I love them, it was pretty special.

The Big 3 - 0

Tuesday, April 29, 2014

Happy birthday to meee!

I'm 30 today dolls. Three. Zero. It's a big one and it totally snuck up on me. I must admit, I've been preoccupied with another little girl's impending birthday and haven't given a lot of thought to mine. The hubs and I celebrated with a joint 30th party in March (in between both of our real birthday's) so I feel like I've already done the necessary celebrating. This birthday will be quieter than most, but I think that's appropriate for where I am right now (i.e. 9 months pregnant).

30 hasn't hit me that hard. Honestly, 20 was a much bigger shock. I'm actually pretty content with where my life is in this moment. I don't know if it's exactly what I pictured 30 would be, but I feel "grown-up" on good days, and am happy more often than not. So I'm calling that a win. I'm proud of the progress I made in my 20's and am excited to see where my 30's lead.

I still firmly believe that the best is yet to come - cheers to that dolls!

Thursday, February 27, 2014

I hope you'll all indulge me for a minute -- about two weeks ago the lovely and talented Mallory of Mallory Miya Photography came to our home and took some intimate maternity shots. Here are a few of my favorites...

Thank you Mallory, I had so much fun shooting with you.

I completely recommend her to all you Bay Area mamas-to-be out there (ps: she does weddings, engagements, and newborn shoots too!).  xo!
