Baby Girl's 1st Year

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

It's truly amazing how much a tiny human changes over the course of their first year. Case in point, little Livy's monthly transformation.

Gah! Isn't she the best? Less my little baby and more my little girl every day.

2014 Met Gala

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

So unless you've been living under a rock, you know that the 2014 Met Gala happened on Monday. Ack! This is my favorite "fashion thingy" of the year. Yes, even more so than the Oscars. I love that most of the celebrities and guests break out the couture and that more than just beautiful gowns, people come dressed in head to toe works of art. It's that extra dose of creativity that gets me.

There were way too many beautiful looks for me to narrow it down to a top three, so here are my favorite round ups:
1 / 2 / 3. Enjoy!

This isn't news. I'm sure you've all seen seen this adorable four year old who's been blazing a trail across the interwebs with her inspiring fashions.

I just can't get over the creativity, and let's face it - the cuteness. Follow this dynamo mommy daughter duo on instagram @2sisters_angie.

Oscars 2014

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

Did y'all watch the Oscars on Sunday? I was traveling back from LA so I missed a good deal of it, what can you do?

The moment above had to be my favorite. Plus, how moving was Lupita's speech? She's so beautiful, but she seems like she's just as lovely on the inside (if not more so). What was your favorite moment? Aside from the fashion of course.

Friday's Finds

Friday, January 10, 2014

These Sophie Hulme "Pom Pom Man" keychains are rocking my world. They are totally luxurious in the weirdest way. Personally, I like when "fashion" doesn't take it's self too seriously - a healthy dose of silly is always in order if you ask me.

Don't they remind you of those little fuzzy goggly eyed dudes schools used to give away as prizes for magazine drives and wrapping paper sales? Any one else remember those?

Thursday's Tidbits

Thursday, January 9, 2014

Oh man, how lovely are these mixed media pieces by Chilean artist Jose Romussi? I love the contemporary embroidery with the black and white fashion photos. These are gorgeous and girly, but also subversive. I'm loving it!

Bubbles

Monday, January 6, 2014

Angela Kelly and her son were spending a frigid winter's day at their home in Washington, when the temperatures dipped below 16 degrees. Probably as a result of cabin fever, Kelly got a crazy idea ... bubbles!

She and her son mixed up some bubble juice and ventured out to see what happens when you blow bubbles in the freezing cold.

The results are just beautiful. Some bubbles froze as they hit the ground, most froze over night, and then thawed slowly as the sun come up, some deflated or broke, but they were all lovely. Such a simple idea, but they're magical, right? Delicate, fleeting, and precious - like most things in life.

Badass

Monday, December 16, 2013

Um, can we take a moment to discuss the fact that Beyonce is a badass?

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that Beyonce released a totally secret, unpublicized self titled visual album last week. An album that just so happens to be awesome.

It goes without saying that Beyonce's voice is amazing - so listening to her is a treat in and of itself - but this album is so much more. Her lyrics explore sex, femininity, motherhood, and female stereotypes among other issues. It's even been hailed as a work of modern feminism. The track "Blow" is an incredibly catchy and fun anthem of female sexuality, but it's "Pretty Hurts" that really speaks to me - a discussion on our crippling quest for perfection and the impossible standards of "beauty" imposed on women in our culture. The track "Blue" is a beautiful tribute to her little girl, that I of coursed couldn't help but cry through. Oh, and in addition to 14 stellar tracks, she also created 17 music videos ...

Basically, Beyonce is a badass. "Nuf said.

Thursday's Tidbit

Thursday, December 12, 2013

I was in the sixth grade when this beautiful version of Romeo + Juliet premiered. I went to see the movie with a group of girlfriends (feeling super grown up that our parents had let us see a movie on our own, even if they would all be waiting for us in the parking lot by the time it ended) and was totally swept away. From the first scene, I was completely transfixed. The movie was just so ... cool! I fell completely and inconsolably in love with Leo, when he died at the end I was completely heart broken. I sobbed on my way out of the theater, on the car ride home, and may have cried myself to sleep that night. To cope, I bought the soundtrack and listened to it on repeat for approximately a year.  What can you do?

Thursday's Tidbit

Elle Eyre is a rockin' 19 year old Brit. She's been compared to Gnarls Barkley and Adele. Not too shabby. Listen to her song "Deeper" hereShe describes the track as "about an experience I had when you're with someone and they drop those three words and when they say it you don't feel the same." I dare you not to sing along.

Look out for her full album, to be released on December 10th, just in time for Christmas.

Who Runs The World?

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Girls! I love this ad, and this company. It really got me thinking about the products we make for our girls, the way we advertise to them, and the way we speak to them in general. What options are we presenting them with?

Princesses are lovely, but let's face it - it's not really a viable career option for those of us not named Kate Middleton. Yes, we've had three women Secretaries of State, there are many many strong female role models out there, and girls out number boys at many universities, but we still haven't broken that pesky glass celling, and still don't have equal pay for equal work across the board, among a myriad of other issues.  Maybe if we spent a little more time empowering our little ladies, rather than shoving pink (which, don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of) down their throats, these things wouldn't be so far out of reach.

This is my favorite thing
